Today I had dinner at Siam House on 4th Street in Downtown Bloomington. This is one of the more recognizable features of the Downtown area as it has unmistakable "thai finesse". The architecture of what was once an old house has been manipulated to seem traditional Thai in nature. I arrived around 4, so I seemed to be the only one dining at the restaurant at the time. I was promptly seated in a corner table by a window. On looking at the menu I was disappointed to see that most of the entrees were outside my price range (which, on a normal day, usually doesn't not extend beyond 13 dollars). After much deliberation, I decided to order the classic "Chicken Pad Thai", in what I assumed would be a good introductory dish to the restaurant. The waiter asked me how spicy wanted it, from 1 to 5, and I replied with 4. I'm something of a spicy food fan, so looking back, perhaps I should have ordered 5.
Within about 15 minutes (as I was the only one in the restaurant) my food came out to me piping hot. The presentation was impecable, an extremely large portion of noodles with peanuts, cabbage, and carrots on the side with a large fork and spoon for mixing them if you so desired. The noodles were flavorful and cooked perfectly, however for a spicy rating of 4 they didn't have much of a kick. The chicken was tender, and there was a liberal amount of it in with the noodles. Because the portion was so big, I ended up taking half the meal home. With my check I was given a "Thai Fortune Roll". At first I was delighted at the prospect of a cookie with white chocolate shavings in side, until I learned it was a slip of paper telling me I had to earn my luck.
To summarize:
The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly and the food is pretty tasty. The prices are somewhat expensive, but if you don't eat very big portions, you'll have leftovers.

Price: Fairly Expensive
Value: With portions that large, its worth it unless you're used to cleaning your plate. The plates of food could easily be two meals.
